As you’ve read above and as you’ve possibly never heard about, now you can get a University degree in Heavy Metal at New College Nottingham, UK. where, according to a BBC coverage they did about the subject, you will be taught about:
The history of Heavy Metal music, its effect on popular culture, movies and video games and how to compose and perform it.
In the second year students will tour lots of venues around the country.
You can watch the full video Here (BBC)
It consist of a 2 year-degree in Heavy Metal, which will be just like any other university degree, in fact, you can opt to study for a third year and get a full degree awarded by Nottingham Trent University, which has accredited the course.
Liam Maloy, who developed the course said a lot of true words, take a look:
It’s a degree, so it will be academically rigorous.
In the past, heavy metal has not been taken seriously and is seen as lacking academic credibility when compared with other genres such as jazz and classical music. But that’s just a cultural construction.
Which i totally agree with him.
Of course since this course has gotten a lot of notoriety, now it has its haters of its own, claiming:
There are too many degrees being offered that lack credibility in the marketplace. I suspect that may be the case with this course, unless you want to be a heavy metal star, in which case why would you need a degree in the subject? It might seem an attractive, easy option to some people. But you don’t need to do a degree in heavy metal. It’s a waste of time.
Words wich were said by no other than Chris McGovern, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education.
I don’t know about you guys, but this is pretty curious, it is cool, though. to each his own, if some dude or non-dude girl wants to learn all of this and get a degree in his favourite music, who are we to oppose to his/her dreams or desires?.
What do you think?.
